Lose 1kg in 2 Weeks

I believe in being realistic.  So I shout at you: DO NOT BELIEVE YOU CAN DROP 5+KGS IN 3 WEEKS.  This is outrageous.  If you starve yourself you might achieve this, but the second you eat again that weight is going straight back on. Then what’s the point starving yourself for nothing? Next question:  Do [...]

Are Supplements necessary?

I was recently asked how I feel about supplements!  Not completely knowing what situation the request was relating to, I thought I’d keep my answer broad.  I’d also like to point out that this blog entry is my personal opinion only – if you currently have a medical condition please always follow your doctors advice. Home cooked oven baked chicken  The way in which we cook, prepare and season our food is an important factor to consider when managing your weight and trying to stay healthy. Obviously anything that is deep fried, stir fried, shallow fried, wrapped in pastry, smothered in sauces and gravies is going to be much higher in calories, fat and [...]

Paddling at Sentosa

Another great weekend of paddling at Sentosa for me! I arrived to my Outrigger training on Sunday hoping for an easier session as I was feeling a little…. well let’s just say ‘fragile’ – but that hope was soon squashed when I found out we’d be taking the OC1′s out.   I was a little [...]

    • Guest_2728 : Hi healthguru, do you happen to know if the calories vary among different varieties of the same fruit, per 100g? E.g. Fuji apple vs Pacific Rose apple, Korean strawberries vs US ones, Chinese pear vs western pears, Navel orange vs blood orange etc... or are they just all basically the same? Your expertise would be much appreciated :)
    • Guest_4396 : Agree! Sounds like an interesting topic. I also read somewhere before that the best time to start a new diet is like on the first few days on/after the menstrual period (can't remember exactly tho)!
    • Guest_4126 : Hi, Guru, this might sounds wierd, but could you please help to explain the impact of female menstruation cycle on energy consumption, calorie burning and metabolism?? I resently read somewhere that female might comsume up to 300 more calories per day before and during their period; meanwhile we also have crazy cravings. would be great to control/regulate the diet and workout during that period of time
    • Guest_4412 : Hey, I was just wondering - when you state the nutrition info in foods, do you actually buy it and test it with special equipment, or are they just estimates from the ingredients?
    • Guest_3291 : Hi Heathguru! do you know the calorie count for lao ban tau huey? and also the beancurd tarts from le confectionary? A million thanks!

    • Guest_1944 : how about including other yogurt chains too, e.g. Sogurt, Yigloo, Yogurt place, Yoguru, Sour Sally (wisma atria) which has flavours like chocolate.. Since stores such as Yami yogurt already display nutrition info at their stores while other brands do not! And they all have varying tartness/creamin ess/iciness/swee tness too so the calories are definitely not the same..it'd be really great have a comparison of froyo across the various brands! I'm not the same person btw, just another reader who'

    • Guest_950 : Hi! I'm pretty confused and stressed out right now! I've been reading your website for 2 years and finally have a question to ask. According to traditional chinese medicine, I have something called a 'fiery liver' and have to avoid deep fried, spicy, food cooked at extreme heat, spicy food which I love, curry, etc. I need to lose a lot of weight (about 20kg!) and have a health condition (my doctor--a traditional chinese medicine practitioner-- says that I have messed up body systems, thus af

    • Guest : Hello! Just wondering, could you do a post on the frozen yogurt stores available in S'pore? Eg. Yami Yogurt, Sogurt, Yoguru, Frolick, etc. It must be difficult to estimate the nutrition content in frozen yogurt, but perhaps you could give it a try? I love having fro-yo as a snack, so it'd be nice to know which brands to avoid and which brand to go for! (: Thanks!
