How are we going to reduce OBESITY if this is what people read online?

I regularly scout around on the internet to see what other experts are saying on-line for health tips and weight loss advice.  This morning I nearly choked on my coffee reading the ninemsn health & well-being section.  I’d like to claim the following statement:  WHAT I AM ABOUT TO BLOG ABOUT I FIND RIDICULOUSLY WRONG.  I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY PUBLISHED THIS.

12 Smart Snacking Ideas:  As long as you snack smart, snacking can be a great way to maintain blood sugar levels and crush hunger pangs between meals, thereby reducing the likelihood of overeating at mealtime. However, if you choose snack options that are more like mini meals, snacking can sabotage your shape management attempt.  Next time you’re feeling like a snack, try these healthy and tasty options: (I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY WROTE THAT CONSIDERING THE SNACKS THEY SUGGEST – ESPECIALLY THE BIT ABOUT THE BLOOD SUGAR)

  1. Chocolate Fruit Sticks
  2. Skinny Hot Chocolate (made with real Belgian Chocolate)
  3. Chocolate Mousse
  4. Biscotti with your Coffee
  5. Frozen Yoghurt
  6. TV Mix (Unsalted nuts, dried fruit, popcorn)
  7. Corn Chips
  8. Cheese and Crackers
  9. Baked Pita bread with Salsa or Hommous
  10. Celery and Peanut Butter
  11. Mini Muffins
  12. Baked Apples & Ricotta

Out of these recommendations – I find maybe 2 a reasonable suggestion – but all the others are loaded with calories, high in fat, carbohydrate dominant or all of the above.  Most of them won’t help with blood sugar – they will make matters worse.

What really makes me choke is that people read this from supposed experts and think it’s correct.

This is the problem – people are getting stupid advice like this and get so confused about what’s right and wrong – and our obesity pandemic keeps rising.

If you want to lose weight – do it correctly.  Go to see a weight management professional. That means not a slimming centre employee.  Don’t read an on-line article.  Don’t get a personal trainer at the gym that’s done a weekend course.  Don’t follow absurd fad diets.  Walk away if it’s anything to do with multi-level marketing slimming products (they are just making money off you)

Go and see a professional that specialises in weight management.  You need a scientifically-proven and safe system. They need to be qualified (ask them).  You also need to see an actual person for help – i.e. would you go to the pharmacy if you have a sore tooth you need pulled out and buy everything you need to do it at home and download an on-line step-by-step procedure for tooth extraction – NO – you go to a dentist that specialises in how to do this correctly.

And finally – you need a professional weight management system that at least measures BMI, B0dy Fat, circumferences, Basal Metabolic rate, Muscle mass and it’s an added bonus if they are that professional they send you for blood tests for cholesterol and diabetes.

A professional / governing body / ethical standards board needs to step in and control this if the world has ANY chance of improving the rising problem with obesity and it’s related illnesses and disease.
