What does this mean?

The average TOTAL DAILY calorie intake is approximately 1200 – 1500 for Women & 1500 – 1800 for men (This number varies for everyone and depends on your age, height, weight, gender and activity levels).  In all honesty, the slender and shorter frames most people have in Singapore I regularly see this number much lower than this.  This means, that in one big mac meal, you nearly consume your entire daily calories.  That means, all excess that you consume throughout the day will be converted and stored as body fat.

A big mac meal contains 31 g of FAT.  The TOTAL DAILY recommendation is 30g.  This means a lot more fat is circulating through your blood stream increasing the risk of high cholesterol leading to stroke or heart attack.

And finally – 173g of CARBOHYDRATES.  Ouch.  All Carbohydrates are digested to glucose (sugar) and released into your bloodstream for your body to use as energy. Any unused glucose is converted and stored as body fat.  Basically all excess carbohydrates drive straight towards your fat cells!  That’s their job.  The consequences of such a huge amount of carbohydrates is that you feel great just after you eat – but then 2hrs after being digested you will feel tired, lethargic, fall to sleep, you may crave sweets and start feeling hungry again. This is your body trying to get you to eat more sugar again (just like a drug – sugar is addictive)  Add on top of that, the fact this meal is HIGH in simple, refined carbohydrates like white bread and loads of sugar, it’s digested very fast and won’t keep you feeling full long at all.

Basically all roads lead to FAT and the fact you won’t stay full – you’ll need to keep eating more and more.

A big mac meal is a once in blue moon meal – if at all.  This should be a last resort meal instead of a daily or weekly treat.  Spend your calories more wisely throughout the day.  If you have to eat this – don’t get a large portion, try a small instead. Ask yourself if you really need that fries and drink. Avoid full sugar drinks by choosing sugar free options like diet coke or water is best.  Don’t add extra calories by smothering with sauces. And definitely do not get a dessert.

Ask yourself is good health more important a big mac meal?  If the answer is YES, then step out of the cue and move right along.
