Interview for 2010 Singapore Blog Awards!

Posted on | June 7, 2010 | No Comments

As part of the 2010 Singapore Blog Awards the top 10 finalists have been asked to provide answers to a few questions for their supporters to learn more about them.  I thought I’d post my responses for you.  Remember to click on the link and vote daily!

Q1.       Tell us about yourself in 50 words.

I’m a girl with a passion to be healthy!  As an accredited Exercise Physiologist, Personal Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Health Coach, Pilates Instructor, Diet and Nutrition Trainer the last 13 years within the industry have awarded me the title of The Health Guru.  I provide factual, informative and down to earth advice on all aspects of exercise, diet and health.

Q2.       How long have you been blogging and why did you start blogging?

I’ve only been blogging for the past year because I think it’s an important way to reach out to alot of people.  Being healthy is a very important part of life and I’ve realized that many people don’t have the correct information or know how to care for their own health correctly.  So I began The Health Guru blog to provide real facts to real people.  I like to think I give people hope that they can take control of their health and for my younger readers I hope for them to realize that being healthy is actually quite cool.

Q3.       How do you feel as one of the finalists in the Singapore Blog Awards? What do you think is your chance of winning?

I am really proud to be one of the finalists in the Singapore Blog Awards.  It came as a huge surprise to be nominated!  I’d like to think my chances are quite high to win because my blog is the only one of its type in Singapore.  But I guess that all depends on Singapore and if they’re ready to embrace the prescription drugs online without prescription importance of healthy living.  The other nominees in the category all have fantastic blogs so it’s just an honour to be in the top 10 really!

Q4.       Who do you think are the strongest bloggers in the category you are nominated for and why?

I admire all of the other nominee’s in this category and think it’s so hard to compare us as we’re all focusing on very different topics of life.  It’s evident some are just out for the shock value and instant fame, some are promotional and others are purely passionate about what they’re saying and doing.  I’d like to see the passionate bloggers rewarded for their efforts.

Q5.       What would you like to say to your blog readers and those who voted and supported you?

THANKS SO MUCH for reading, supporting and voting for The Health Guru blog.  I don’t write this blog for personal gratification – I do it to share knowledge and facts to empower my readers.  If I can change just one person’s life then I’ve succeeded in my mission.  So I encourage my supporters to keep reading, take control of their health & body, eat well, be well and live the longest life you can.

Q6.       What is your most controversial blog post and why?

My most controversial blogs are my personal opinions about current approaches to healthy living and weight loss. Unfortunately people are not getting the correct facts and are confused. However, I don’t believe in being negative and choose not to make The Health Guru blog a ‘hate’ site – I’d much prefer to lead by example and give people the true facts.  In everything I blog about – it supports the fact that I don’t agree with slimming centres & weight loss gimmicks that are commercially promoted, the conventional carbohydrate food pyramid is out-dated and needs to be changed and exercise is not the key to long term weight management.

Q7.       Have you ever gotten into trouble or got rewarded for blogging? Elaborate.

My biggest reward is the positive feedback I receive from my friends and fans about what I write.  It’s nice to chat with people and have them tell me what they’ve learnt from what they’ve read.  And yes – I do frequently get in trouble with my friends for blogging about their favourite foods and telling them how unhealthy it is!  But I always tell them knowledge is power!
