Hamilton Island Cup 2011

The Austcham Paddle Club recently competed in the Hamilton Island Outrigger Cup 2011 in Australia. It was a four day event with every combination of OC paddling and distances including OC1, OC2, OC6, Stand up paddle, 8km, 16km and 42km marathon change race. Our paddlers produced an outstanding effort to bring home 3 international race medals:
- Luke 8km OC1 Open Mens Bronze
- Susan & Caroline 8km OC2 Open Womens Bronze
- Our whole team winning BRONZE in the Mixed Open 42km marathon
We are so proud of our effort – the whole team trained so hard for nearly 5 months and the effort really showed. The conditions for our 42km race were unlike anything we’ve trained in (4 metre swells and 30 knot winds) so we are especially proud of our team effort to win Bronze in that one.
Congrats to Analu, Caroline, Susan, Steph, Luke, Mike, Christoph, Lindsay, Adrian and (me). Super special mentions to Simon “change chart guru” and Chris K who snuck off and paddled for the Hong Kong team (that beat us).
