Listen up people: Fat Doesn’t Just Dissolve

Posted on | April 9, 2010 | No Comments

As much as everyone is looking for the easy way out of this problem or just wants a ‘quick fix’ – don’t be fooled by claims by beauty centres, slimming spas or anything similar – Fat doesn’t dissolve and they can’t be zapped away.

These ‘fat dissolving’ procedures called by names such as lipodissolve, mesotherapy, lipozap, lipotherapy, or injection lipolysis all involve unproven injections of drugs. The treatments usually consist of injections of two drugs called phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate.  In some cases, other ingredients including drugs or components of other products like vitamins, minerals and herbal extracts are also added to the mixture. None have been shown to work in credible clinical trials.

The US Food & Drug Administration have recently launched a statement saying that:

“So-called fat dissolving treatments offered by spas do not eliminate fat and the companies should stop saying so. We are concerned that these companies are misleading consumers. It is important for anyone who is considering this voluntary procedure to understand that the products used to perform lipodissolve procedures are not approved by the FDA for fat removal”

In the US, the FDA issued warning letters to Monarch Medspa in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania; Spa 35 in Boise, Idaho; Medical Cosmetic Enhancements in Chevy Chase, Maryland; Innovative Directions in Health of Edina, Minnesota; PURE Med Spa in Boca Raton, Florida, and All About You Med Spa in Madison, Indiana. The FDA also warned a Brazilian company antibiotics that markets so-called lipodissolve products on their websites.

The hard facts are:  To reduce stored body fat – your body must use it as energy.  Infact this principle relates to the 1st Law of Thermodynamics: Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It can only change forms.

In order to use up stored fat – you must be in a ‘calorie deficit’ state so your body uses fat for energy which will reduce the amount you have stored I.e. Less calorie input, more output = fat loss.

Don’t waste your money on gimmicks and unreliable claims.  Fat reduction & weight management should be done by qualified Health Care practitioners that already know this!
