Cheesecake is renown around the world and there are endless varieties and recipe variations. There’s everything from the good old traditional lemon flavoured cheesecake, blueberry, marbled chocolate or strawberry to more modern recipes containing toffee, coffee, mars bar or crunchie chocolate bars. Just about all flavours can be added to the base of cream cheese – they can be baked or not baked and served with everything from cream, ice-cream, nuts or fruit sauces. This dessert is so popular there are stand alone businesses selling nothing but cheesecake.
As there are so many varieties, the following nutrition information is for a traditional cheesecake recipe consisting of cream cheese, eggs, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla with a crushed biscuit base. The diameter of the cake is 23 cm diameter (9 inches) and cut into 12 pieces.
Nutrition information: 1 piece of cheesecake (1/12th portion as described above)
- Energy: 411 calories
- Protein: 11.2 g
- Carbs: 37.2 g
- Fat: 24.8 g
These desserts are so rich to eat, normally a few mouthfuls leaves you feeling quite overindulged. One slice is quite a calorie bomb – over 400 calories. This dessert is best shared with as many people as you can: one slice, 6 spoons!
Within the recipe the protein content is from the cream cheese and egg, the carbs from the sugar and biscuit base and of course the fat is from the cream cheese, egg and biscuit base.
The only possible way to make this a little healthier is if there’s an option to have a non-sweetened cake that has fruit inside to add natural sweetness, this would be a SLIGHTLY better option! Other than that, this should be just a once in a while treat. Enjoy!
