Nutrition Info: Calories in Waffles

Waffles!

Waffles!

I’ve been asked, how many calories in waffles?  Before I answer this question, I am going to ask you:

What brand? What size? What weight? Was it home-made, bought from a store or from a supermarket? What ingredients? How much butter, milk and eggs were in the batter? Was it low fat milk or full cream?  Did you eat it with butter, sugar, chocolate sauce, kaya, peanut butter, syrup, fruit on top?

All of the answers to these questions make a big difference as to how many calories are in a waffle.

What’s in a waffle?

A very general recipe consists of all purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, eggs, milk, and vegetable oil. All of these ingredients contain energy (calories)

A very general estimation of the nutrition of waffles are: Size:  1 medium waffle (60g)

  • Energy: 142 calories
  • Protein: 3.4 g
  • Carbs: 21.8 g
  • Fat: 4.4 g

Then consider what you put on top:  Chocolate sauce (150 calories), butter (200 calories), peanut butter (120 calories), kaya (150 calories) ….. and consider that if you put more than about 2 tablespoons of topping in… these figures will be more.

So my estimation that a plain waffle alone is decent portion / snack… it’s just what you have with it that doubles the badness!

Note:  I have been asked what a 7 inch waffle is equivalent to. I have to take an educated guess (because I really don’t know what ingredients have gone into the waffle, which is the most important thing to know when you analyse food) So therefore, I guesstimate that a 7 inch waffle will be approximately 120g.  Therefore, you can multiply the above information by 2.  Therefore, I am guessing as I have no idea about ingredients, how it was cooked, how much oil/butter/milk, what toppings went on etc etc… that a 7 inch waffle has approximately  284 calories in it.  But to give the most accurate information I would need you to find out the recipe, how it was cooked and the exact weight for a better guide to this answer.

Hi there, just wanted to point out that peanut butter in general has around 180-210 calories per 2 Tbsp serving, not 120.
