Delicious cupcake!

Delicious cupcake!

I have recently out of thin air developed an insatiable addiction to Cupcakes.   I have found the world’s best bakery (no exaggeration) that I daydream about attending during my work week and spend Friday night in excited anticipation to purchase some on Saturday.

Sigh……..

So common sense just dawned on me to take a look at how much ‘damage’ I’m doing by consuming one or two or three sweet, scrumptious little moist cakes with gooey icing.

OH MY GOD……..

So of course it’s extremely hard to know the exact recipe that the baker has used, so you do have to show some common sense and know that the figures I’m going to reveal to you are an estimation…. They could be +/- 50-100 calories per portion… GULP.

Nutrition information for 1 vanilla cupcake with buttercream icing

  • Energy:  300 calories
  • Protein: 3 g
  • Carbs: 28g
  • Fat: 9g

Note: I looked on the internet for this nutrition information as there was no recipe provided

Question: So how do you know exactly how many calories you’re eating?

Answer:  I really don’t know!! But you could follow the below assumptions:

Size: The bigger the cupcake, the more calories

Ingredients:  More special flavours and ingredients will typically have more calories  ie: A hazelnut cupcake with nutella filling will have more energy than a vanilla cupcake.

Icing:   The more icing – then the more calories it contains.

See the below picture showing examples of Cupcake portions and calories…

Cupcake chartSo the brakes are officially ON with regards to my recent addiction. I think 300 calories can be better spent elsewhere.  And…. I think in future I should only eat 1 cupcake at a time… not two…….. or three.

My final advice:  Remember to always follow my additional recommendations every time you eat: Eat slowly, put your utensils down between bites and always stop when you feel 80% full because it’s better to waste it than to ‘waist’ it. Enjoy!
