Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi !!! – Austcham Paddle Club
Another awesome weekend of paddling cheap drugs completed! It was the first ‘Gallops’ Dragon Boat race held to coincide with the Singapore Airlines International Cup horse race. The race was 200 metres held at Boat Quay and was action packed!
They set the lanes for the dragon boat race very narrow – so the slightest error in steering was catastrophic! There were an abnormally high amount of boats crashing and capsizing – I estimate about 15 boats in total! (Not the aussies though!) There was also plenty of entertainment out of the water – games, free food, prizes, give aways, music …. But of course I wasn’t there for that – I was there to race!
And race we did! We WON gold in the 20 crew mixed Expat race in a very, very, very close finish.
And we made it to the finals in the 10 crew women’s race. However, the massive storm that blew in had other ideas and the final 3 races had to be cancelled. In that situation, the times from the Semi finals are normally used to award the medals which means the Aussie women won Silver (however, we’re still waiting for the medals!)
Apart from the boiling hot weather – the weekend was a raging success! Bring on the next race!
