Nutrition Info: Calories in Horlicks Malted Milk

Horlicks is the branded name of a malted milk drink that is marketed to promote sleep (although how it does this is not truly known!). There are 3 versions of Horlicks: Original (that is mixed with milk) and Horlicks Light and Horlicks Light Malt Chocolate which are both made by mixing with hot water.
Nutrition info for Horlicks malt powder: 2 tablespoons
- Energy: 90 calories
- Protein: 3 g
- Carbs: 18 g
- Fat: 1 g
Nutrition info for Horlicks with milk: 2 tablespoon horlicks + 200ml skim milk
- Energy: 189 calories
- Protein: 9.6 g
- Carbs: 27 g
- Fat: 4.3 g
(Note: The Horlicks light versions have 114 and 120 calories per serve when mixed with hot water – so if you can it makes more sense to choose this option)
My recommendations to make this drink slightly healthier are:
- Choose the light versions and mix with hot water
- Use low fat milk if needed
- If you use powder at home – cut your portion in half
- Don’t add any sugar
Other than that, you should try not to drink such drinks every day – trying flavoured black tea or coffee to cut to cut down the calories you consume.
