How to consume less calories at your meals

This advice is really simple and works! To ensure you don’t over consume calories that your body really doesn’t need follow these rules. This is how you’ll be able to better manage your weight for life:
1. Eat slowly
2. Put your utensils down between mouthfuls
3. Don’t begin loading your next mouthful of food until you’ve already swallowed what’s in your mouth
4. Stop eating when you feel 80% full (or just comfortable)
When we eat it takes a length of time for satiety to be registered by the brain. (Satiety is the feeling of being full). Sometimes, it can actually take about 20 minutes for your brain to realise that your stomach contains enough food. So if you eat very fast and keep loading food into your mouth chances are that towards the end of your meal you really don’t need those additional calories. I’m sure we can all relate to that over full / stuffed feeling when we’ve eaten too much.
Importantly, it’s OK not to finish everything on your plate. Don’t stuff yourself just to finish everything. Remember it’s better to waste it than to ‘waist’ it.
