Austcham Paddle Club in Singapore – Paddle with the aussies!
Establishing a fitness routine as an individual takes alot of self motivation and discipline. It’s a very lonely world running & gymming daily without a training parter – which is why I’m a big fan of team / group sport. When you commit to a team it’s alot harder to miss training without at least a text message to check where you are!
I stumbled across a VERY rowdy bunch in Clarke Quay one afternoon (that’s another story in itself) that turned out to be the Austcham Dragon Boat Paddling team out celebrating one of their victories. I got talked into coming down for a trial and 5 months later I find myself a self confessed addict.
Hands down, this is the best way to spend a Saturday afternoon – getting fit, enjoying the fresh air after being cooped up in the corporate world all week, laughing & chatting with my team mates and best of all, you can burn up to about 500 calories per hour.
This weekend is the Annual Boat Quay Race and I’ve made it into one of the boats. I’m looking forward to lots of races, winning & coming home with a medal around my neck.
